Mapping the EU Migrant Crisis in Tableau

Mapping the EU Migration Crisis

The European Union is in the midst of an refugee crisis. Thousands are fleeing for their lives from war torn countries such as Syria where the threat from ISIS means families risk their lives making the journey across dangerous seas to the save haven of the EU. Already in 2015 the number of applicants in Germany and Hungary have exceeded their 2014 levels. Many people are drowning in the Mediterranean sea, crammed into boats, often paying traffickers huge sums of money. Not all the migrants are refugees, many are looking for a better future for their children, and see the EU as a way of a making this happen. This dashboard uses asylum application data from Eurostat to plot these journeys from both their country of origin and the country they applied for asylum.

  1. The darkest corridor of lines in this map labels as Bulgaria-Afghanistan, whereas it is Turkey - Asia Minor. ! More than 2 million of refugees are located in this country.
